The actual color of these wines can vary between an intense violet you see in young wines to a brick red found in mature wines. CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Flavors: bell pepper, green olive, herb, black currant, black cherry, blackberry, plum, spices

Cabernet Sauvignons are some of the driest reds and come from the world’s foremost red wine-grape variety. They can range from a bold, full-body wine made with dark black fruits, spice and oak to a softer style with a dominant fruit flavor. These wines are high in tannins and have a great depth of flavors.

MERLOT

Flavors: watermelon, strawberry, cherry, plum, currant, spices

Merlots are the Chardonnay of reds. They’re usually a lighter, versatile and good quality red wine. As Merlot ages, the herbal flavors become stronger as the fruity flavors begin to fade.

PINOT NOIR

Flavors: ripe tomato, beet root, black olive, black cherry, raspberry, plum, spices

Pinot Noirs are a light-bodied, dry red wine featuring a variety of tastes from lush and fruity to herbal and earthy, and emitting an earthy aroma. We have selections from the Burgundy region in France, California and the Willamette Valley in Oregon, among others.

ZINFANDEL

Flavors: raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, boysenberry, cranberry, raisin, prune, spices

Zinfandels are normally a deep red color and wines range from light and sweet to intense and full-bodied. We carry California Zinfandels and several from the Puglia region in Italy.

SYRAH/SHIRAZ

Flavors: blackberry, black currant, boysenberry, plum, black pepper, clove

Shiraz, or Syrah as it’s known in France, are complex, yet smooth wines with spicy and rich flavors. Shiraz wines are Australia’s viniculture claim to fame. We carry several Australian brands, among others from France, California and South Africa.

MALBEC

Flavors: sour cherry, blackberry, spice

Malbec wines are typically dry, medium to full-bodied and higher in tannins and alcohol. They have risen to prominence in Argentina.

CARMENERE

Flavors: bell pepper, cherry, blackberry, spice

A distant relative of Merlot and cousin of Malbec, Carmenere is to Chile as Malbec is to Argentina. Originally blended with Merlot, winemakers soon realized its own flavor warranted creating single varietal wines.

RED BLENDS

Red Blends have increased in popularity and offer a blend for all palates. Most blends have Zinfandel as the main grape and can range from big and bold to softer, less tannic styles.

OTHER REDS

Many of our Italian Reds come from the Piedmont, Tuscany and Veneto regions and our French Reds from the Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone regions. We also carry Spanish Reds, including Sangria, primary varietals like Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mencia and Monastrell, and blends from the Priorat region.
